We have a major Staff Picks this week and is no other than our CEO, Ángeles Romo. Ángeles has so many challenges ahead, like setting and implementing the guidelines for Start-Up Chile as the new management of Corfo and leading the public accelerator in its 10th anniversary.
But, she is more than qualified for the job, with more than 20 years of experience in strategic consulting, business financing, incubation, business acceleration, business angels, and venture capital. Previously, Angeles was CEO of Endeavor Chile and Strategy Director of Corfo, and she is also a professor in the Pontificia Universidad Católica de Chile.
“I like to read about entrepreneurship, innovation, and venture capital. Each book is a source of inspiration and reflection, learning, and questioning. If I have to choose one, I’ll select Start-Up Nation, the story of Israel’s economic miracle, a book by Dan Senor and Saul Singer”.
“It’s an inspiring and thoughtful story. It invites us to think about the cultural changes that our economies needs, the relevance of education in our current society, but especially its impact on future generations. It forces us to question the role that each one assumes in this future that we are building”.
“Finally, it generates a deep questioning: How this country has managed to become the second pole of entrepreneurship and innovation in the world? Israel is a small country, without natural resources, surrounded by enemies and permanent crises. An example of public intervention in the startup ecosystem, a model of public-private cooperation, which managed to attract investors and develop the venture capital industry, essential to promote entrepreneurship”.
“And here we have a responsibility for Chile. We begin to wonder how to turn our STARTUP ecosystem into a SCALEUP one. Where the collective interest is over individual wishes, an invitation to build the country we dream of having, where our entrepreneurs are at the center of an ecosystem, that grows and impacts”.
