Meetup with Skype co-founder Ahti Heinla: real story behind the Skype success story.

Ahti Heinla was one the founding engineers at Skype. He will share with us a real story of Skype early days. As active investor he will also share his views about startups and his investment philosophy today.
Jens Kasemets was working at Skype from 2007 – until 2010. He will talk about Skype company culture and his lessons, what he learned working there.  Talk will be moderated by Ragnar Sass, serial startup entrepreneur from Estonia, founder of Pipedrive – a simple CRM software and startup bootcamp

Skype was founded in 2003 by Janus Friisfrom Denmark,Niklas Zennström from Sweden and 4 Estonians: Ahti Heinla, Priit Kasesalu, Jaan Tallinn and Toivo Annus. Team worked together also with the peer-to-peer file sharing software Kazaa.  Just 2 years later eBay bought Skype in for up to $4.1 billion dollars. On 10 May 2011, Microsoft asquired Skype for US$8.5 billion. Today Skype development centre is still in Estonia. Programm has over 200 million active users.

Ahti Heinla is Skype co-founder, former Skype lead architect, investor and nature protector. He picked up programming at the early age of ten, his fascination with all things technical resulting in him being the lead technical architect at Skype.  He was an organizer of Let’s Do It 2008 that mobilised 3% of Estonian population in cleaning up the countryside of Estonia in one day.
