Meetup: Solving real life problems using computational statistics and R


Join Sebastián and Juan Pablo this Wednesday! In this meet up they will discuss different applications of computational statistics to social and daily life problems. They will also discuss simple implementations of  mathematical tools and abstractions using R – a language for computational statistics. This talk is oriented to people with interests in programing and the potential of rapid mathematical prototyping and data visualization.

Sebastián Pérez Saaibi

Co-founder and CEO at æntrópico ( and Scientific Director of the Latin American Innovation Foundation ( He holds a MSc. in Computational Science and Engineering from ETH Zürich where he was an Excellence Scholarship Fellow, and  BSc. degrees in Physics and Mechanical Engineering from Uniandes Bogotá. He has over six years of experience in computational statistics, numerical modeling and financial risk analysis. He has worked in projects ranging from reliability engineering in the Chilean mining sector to High Frequency Trading in Switzerland. Network Fellow at Harvard Ethics for 2012-2013.

Juan Pablo Marín Díaz

Marín Díaz is Chief Innovation Officer of æntropico ( and President of the Latin American Innovation Foundation (  He holds a MSc degree in Electrical Engineering and Information Technology from ETH Zürich (Swiss Federal Government Scholarship Holder) and a BSc in Electronic Engineering from Javeriana University (Bogota). He has over 3 years experience implementing software solutions in IBM and 4 years of research experience in macroeconomics, data analysis and information processing.
