Long story short: Opportunities in Chile, by Ijeoma Oguegbu

Alumni, The S Factory

My love for computers was birthed when I was 8 years old while playing computer games. I was fascinated about how commands written to a computer could create varying responses. This informed my decision to study Computer Science and Management from Wisconsin International University, Ghana, where graduated with honors.

During my study in the university, I dreamt of a being a job creator, rather than a job seeker. Hence, I went into the Meltwater Entrepreneurial School of Technology where I developed skills in programming, business, and communications. At MEST, I learnt how to identify problems and solve them using technology.

Presently, I am the CEO/Cofounder of Beavly. Beavly is a web platform  that connects people who want to learn new skills with professionals who charge a fee to train them.

In November 2015, Beavly got selected into TSF Gen 2. We went into the program with an idea that was only validated. My Cofounder, Barbara Okoto and I , moved over to Chile, from Ghana, West Africa. I must say this was the best decision we ever made as a team.

As two female founders, TSF gave us the opportunity to travel, develop ourselves and our business. TheSFactory program set us up for success. We had great mentorship, encouraging peers and became a part of a vibrant yet warm startup ecosystem like we had never experienced. SUP instilled in us the zeal to work hard and prove our business concept. The funds we received helped build, test and launch a beta in Nigeria,  while carrying out all our user acquisition efforts and customer support from Santiago, Chile.

After we pitched Beavly, as a startup with traction at TSF Demo Day , we have received a lot of press, and media mentions which have helped us get global attention, boosting our brand and presence.

I would definitely recommend the program to any female-led startup who seeks to grow their business idea through an impactful accelerator program. Be guaranteed, if you work hard, it’ll be the best three months in your startup’s success story.

I am currently looking forward to the start of a new journey for Beavly in the seed program commencing soon. We have great things to accomplish and being in the right ecosystem which is Startup Chile GEN 16, will definitely fuel that growth.
