Hacking the Chilean Way w/ the Knight-Mozilla News Innovation Challenge

Thanks to the Journalism School of the Universidad Diego Portales and the Knight-Mozilla News Technology Partnership, one of Chile’s first hackathons will take place here in Santiago.

According to its organizers, Miguel Paz and José Kusunoki, the event entails the following (with a great prize!):

In this first SCL Hackathon we have aligned with the Knight-Mozilla News Innovation Challenge to develop ideas regarding three key notions:

  1. Video: How can the new video tools transform news narration? (more information here)
  2. More than just the comments: How can we reinvent the online news discussion? (more information here)
  3. People-promoted news: How should a news website be in the year 2011 and on? (more information here)

At the end of the hackathon, all of the proposals (can be written briefs, blog posts, demos, or visual drafts) will be sent to the Knight-Mozilla challenge.

And the prize?? If you participate in this challenge, you will immediately be entered to become one of the 15 lucky people who will work for one year in The Guardian, BBC, Al Jazeera, Boston.com, or Zeit.com, with salary, equipment costs, stay, etc. all paid for.
