Fast Company announced its annual ranking of the world’s 50 Most Innovative Companies for 2017, honoring leading enterprises and rising newcomers that exemplify the best in nimble business and impactful innovation. Earning the No. 1 spot on the list this year in the Latin American list is Start-Up Chile for creating (and retaining) new business in Chile.

To produce the 2017 list, Fast Company reporters surveyed thousands of enterprises across the globe to identify the most notable innovations of the year and trace the impact of those initiatives on business, industry, and the larger culture.

In Fast Company’s words “The technology and startup boom is in full swing in the South American country, and at the root of it all is Start-Up Chile, an incubator and accelerator that gives selected up-and-coming startups $40,000 in non-equity funding and a six-month residency in Santiago, all for the purpose of boosting innovation and enlivening Chile’s economy”.

“We are happy to receive this international recognition, this shows that things are being well done in Chile and that technologically-based startups are the key to diversifying the economical matrix in our country”, says Rocío Fonseca, Executive Director of Start-Up Chile.

The international list features Amazon as the most innovative company in the world, a company that stands out for its successful growth strategy based on innovation. Among other things, Amazon has developed successful programs like Amazon Prime and has begun to work with new technologies, like robots and drones.

Airbnb, Apple, BuzzFeed and Facebook are other companies that are part of the international list.

In Latin America, Start-Up Chile leads the list followed by Jet Blue, Descomplica, Creditas and Satellogic.
